We are Mexican Students de Aztlán (MeSA), a cultural student organization here at UIC comprised of the Chicane and Latine community & allies. We are currently collaborating with a local school and community organizer to collect clothing and school material donations for refugee students who have been coming to the city. Winter is upon us and many of these students have neither experienced a harsh Chicago winter before, nor are they prepared to do so. The children, families, refugees, and humans who have come to our city are in great need, and so we ask that everyone able and willing please help us in extending a welcoming and helping hand.
MeSA, in collaboration with the Central American and South American (CASA) student organization at UIC, have set up donation boxes across campus at (and also in collaboration with) the Asian American Cultural Center, Black Cultural Center, Arab American Cultural Center, and Latino Cultural Center.
Donations will be accepted until the end of the semester.
Additional information on what we are specifically asking for (donation-wise) can be found on, and any questions or concerns can be directed to the emails provided in, the flyer. We are also working out a way for people to donate monetarily, as many have been asking if they could cooperate and support that way. More information on that will be provided on our Instagram @mesaatuic and @casaatuic
Anything and everything is welcome!
