Hello Pre-Law Students,
If you are staying in the Chicago area over Spring Break, you should consider taking advantage of this valuable day-long pre-law exploratory/learning experience.
Back by popular demand and positive feedback form last year’s event!
You are invited to participate in UIC’s 2nd Annual Pre-Law Federal Court experience on Tuesday, March 27th from 9:00am to 12:30pm at the Everett McKinley Dirksen United States Courthouse, followed by lunch/student panel and mock class at DePaul University College of Law from 1:00pm to 3:15pm.
All class years are welcome!
On March 27th, we will meet at the Dirksen Federal Building where courthouse staff will lead us through a morning of exploration within the courthouse. Expect to observe courtroom proceedings, meet federal court personnel and U.S. Attorneys. The highlight of the trip will be a conversation with Federal District Judge Joan Humphrey Lefkow and her law clerks. The Dirksen Federal Building is in the heart of the loop and easily accessible by public transportation.
After our visit to the courthouse, we will visit DePaul College of Law, where we will have lunch and hear from current law students about their experiences. Then, we will go on tours of the law school and enjoy a mock class. This is a great opportunity to experience “a day in the life” of a law student.
DePaul schedule:
1:00 p.m. Arrive & Lunch/Welcome/Student Panel
1:45 p.m. Tour with Current Students
2:30 p.m. Mock Class
3:15 p.m. Depart
If you choose to RSVP, you will be expected to arrive at the courthouse no later than 9:00am and plan to spend the entire morning at the Dirksen Federal Building and then join us for lunch/activities at DePaul University College of Law. It’s spring break, you will not miss classes. The DePaul visit will be a valuable experience even if DePaul is currently not on your list of possible schools.
More details to follow for those who RSVP. If you do RSVP, your attendance is expected since I need to provide courthouse officials and DePaul with accurate expected attendance numbers.
