The American Society of Civil Engineers 2018 Great Lakes Student Conference presented by The Burke Group will be hosted by the University of Illinois at Chicago on April 19-21, 2018. The three-day event is expected to draw nearly six hundred students from nineteen universities. This conference features eight new competitions and many new opportunities to engage with local professionals and fellow student participants.
The Great Lakes Student Conference is one of 18 regions that ASCE student chapters are divided into. These regions are based on geography and the Great Lakes Student Conference encompasses schools from southern Wisconsin, northern and central Illinois, and Indiana. In total, the Great Lakes Student Conference is composed of 19 universities and is one of the largest regions based on the number of schools.
Each April the schools from the Great Lakes Student Conference region come together to compete in a set of Civil Engineering-based competitions. At a regional level, 8 competitions are typically hosted, see the competitions page for this year's competitions. Unlike the others, which sometimes change, the Steel Bridge and Concrete Canoe competition are always hosted. These two competitions also have a national competition for schools that qualify at the regional level.
