UIC College of Medicine and College of Pharmacy in Rockford initiated a collaboration with Lifescape Community Services to develop Golden Connections, formerly known as the 21st Century Good Neighbor Program, to address older adult social isolation and fear/anxiety during the COVID-19 crisis.
We are recruiting our 3rd cohort of volunteers to join our effort to be part of this community work. We are recruiting student, faculty, and staff volunteers to make phone calls to older adults who reside in Northwestern Illinois.
The purpose of this program is to identify concerns/questions that these residents have about health care and social issues. Volunteers are asked to commit 1 hour of time per week to check-in with 1 to 2 senior residents by making weekly phone calls (phone call scripts will be provided to guide these phone conversations).
All volunteers will need to complete the following training:
1. Zoom session training (30 minutes) –training date options will be sent out to volunteers
2. Complete and sign volunteer application package
