Professor Jamie Chriqui (UIC School of Public Health) is currently recruiting for up to 3 undergraduate students to support two large, nationwide public health policy studies as part of the Chancellor’s Undergraduate Research Awards Program. To be eligible to apply for a position, you must have already accepted Federal Work Study as part of your Financial Aid package from the University. If this applies to you, then please read on.
Interested students will support one of 3 nationwide research projects:
- To support a nationwide survey of implementation of new federal standards governing meals served in low-income child day care centers. The student hired for this position will help with implementing follow-up telephone key informant interviews.
- To support a study of the failure of the Cook County beverage tax. The student hired for this position will help with collecting documentary evidence and assist with key informant interviews.
- To support a nationwide evaluation of school health and education policies adopted in school districts nationwide. The student will help with policy collection, literature reviews, and broader related research.
Minimum Qualifications of Student
- Must have accepted FWS as part of your financial aid package
- Honors College student preference but not required
- At least a 3.0 GPA; ideally sophomore or higher;
- Excellent organizational skills and extreme attention to detail.
- Excellent literature/internet research skills.
- Interest in public policy, children's health, and/or public health a plus.
- Ideally have taken the UIC Introduction to Public Health course and/or admitted to the UIC
- Undergraduate Public Health major, but not required
- Prior experience with data entry in MS Excel, literature searches, and supporting development of PowerPoint presentations and Word documents a plus.
Position Information
Student will work out of my research office located in the Institute for Health Research and Policy on the west campus, 1747 W. Roosevelt Road (Westside Research Office Building). The intercampus shuttle stops across the street from the building.
Minimum hours per week for each position: at least 10 per week (please specify your preferred hours).
