UIC Arab American Cultural Center
Founded in 2016 by UIC faculty and staff, the Arab American Cultural Center grew out of the Arab and Muslim American Community Network (AMAC), which was established three years prior. The ARABAMCC is the first cultural center serving Arab Americans on a college campus in the United States. It stands to serve individuals who affiliate with Arab and Arab American cultures, languages, and communities as well as anyone interested in building alliances with our communities.
Student Employment Opportunities
The heart of the ARABAMCC staff are the undergraduate student staff members who plan and implement programs, create and maintain connections with the campus and community, assist in evaluation and assessment plans, and keep the ARABAMCC running smoothly. In order to create an integrated, focused and informed student staff, we seek students to fill the following positions. See description and application link below.

Each job includes 8-10 hours per week and staff are required to complete their work at the center. Every undergraduate staff is expected to attend one weekly staff meeting; reply to non-urgent e-mail within 48 hours; participate in group cell phone texts; attend and assist with most (not all) center events; give at least (1) presentation about the center on campus; serve as a support network to students who visit the center; and maintain the center’s cleanliness and our culture of inclusion, respect, brave-spaces, social justice, and professionalism.
Programming:
Create and implement programs of social, political, educational, and cultural nature in collaboration with, but not limited to student organizations, other cultural centers, and campus units. Managing all programming tasks including serving as the point person for all events; managing the logistical tasks for events (room reservation, food order, working with the graphic designer etc.)
(2) Conjoined Positions Outreach/Student Coordinator and Outreach/Campus Coordinator:
This position involves serving as the face of the center to student organizations and the campus. It involves bridging the center with student groups and the campus at large; Interface with community and social service leaders, coordinate outreach programs, and maintain a network of volunteers; organizing and leading a committee of center affiliates to network with student groups; posting center outreach materials around campus; door-knocking and speaking to staff and faculty across campus about the center; maintaining files related to outreach in coordination with the administrator.
Communications and Social Media Director:
Handling listserv, sending out weekly updates, working with the student outreach coordinator on event outreach, managing social media including creating and posting event pages on Facebook, writing a weekly blog or finding weekly blog authors, and posting center activities on twitter, instagram, and snapchat.
Outreach Officer-International Students and Chicago Community:
This position entails managing the center’s buddy system for international students in collaboration with the Office of International Students and managing our community outreach program.
Graphic Designer:
Creating graphic materials for all center events and programs, including brochures, pamphlets, program books, flyers, posters, banners, and/or logos. Must have graphic design experience and a knowledge of Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator and InDesign and show a portfolio of their work.
Other Qualifications:
- Must be a UIC undergraduate student
- Federal work-study is preferred
- Multi-lingual abilities and diaspora Arabic language fluency a plus
- Minimum 3.0 GPA required
