Do you need a nap? Are your constantly tired, overworked, and flat out exhausted with the nonstop demands of a world that only values your machine-level productivity? Come over to the Jane Addams Hull-House Museum and take a nap (or just have a moment of shut-eye) in the historic bedroom of one of America’s most influential reformers.
Social reformer Jane Addams believed strongly in play and rest. Addams advocated for less work and more leisure as she fought to legislate the 8-hour workday when people often worked 14-hour days in terrible conditions. During the turn of the century, you could find the city’s very first public playground and also its first public art gallery at Hull-House. Addams believed that art and creativity are central to what it means to be human and that rest was a human right.
Jane Addams Hull-House Museum invites UIC students, faculty, and staff to come take a nap in the bedroom of the country’s most influential social reformer. Sign up for your hour in her wallpapered bedroom, where objects from her life may intrigue and inspire you. Take in history, and then take a nap.
