The Office of Undergraduate Research in the Office of the Vice Provost for Undergraduate Affairs is pleased to announce that that the application for the 2017-2018 Chancellor's Undergraduate Research Award (CURA) remains open for faculty to work with students who have already accepted Federal Work Study as part of this year's financial aid package. CURA is administered by the OUR to support undergraduate involvement in research and other creative and scholarly activities across campus. You can read more about the program at http://ure.uic.edu/facfws.php
To participate in the CURA program, a professor and/or researcher will need to complete the online application at https://uofi.uic.edu/fb/sec/2383219, and identify the student(s) they are interested in having work on their research. Students are not able to apply to CURA directly, but you do need to be eligible for Federal Work Study via the FAFSA.
Awards are available for one semester or the entire academic year. Applications will be reviewed on a rolling basis in the order in which they are received. Each faculty researcher may apply to support up to three CURA students at a time. CURA is not intended to be combined with other major campus-based funding programs such as LASURI, Honors College research grants, etc., other than those that will meet additional expenses unmet by CURA. Applications will be accepted until the fall CURA fund is depleted or the end of the fourth week of the fall semester, whichever comes first.
This is a great time to reach out to supervisors and mentors, or begin your search in the UIC Undergraduate Research Experience database to find supervisors and mentors, in order to have them apply for the CURA program by the end of the summer. Even though you cannot apply to the program directly, you can talk to your supervisor, professor, or mentor about the application process and see if that's something they are willing to do.
If you have questions about the CURA program, feel free to email the Office of Undergraduate Research at our@uic.edu.
