Dear Summer Honors College Students,
The Writing Center is available Monday-Thursday, 10:00-5:00 pm, through August 3. (We are closed only on July 4th, but open the rest of that week.) You can make an appointment using WCONLINE. If you are on campus, drop by and our help desk will get you started.
We have appointments Online and In-person. In-person appointments are on the first floor of Grant Hall (right next to Lincoln Hall). If you don't have an appointment and want a little feedback, please drop in and we will do our best to find someone to help. While you wait, we can give you a nice place to study or write. You are always welcome to use our space to write, even if you don't have an appointment. We have plenty of tea and instant coffee that we'd be happy to share.
We can help with any writing assignments, but also other writing, such as personal statements, lab reports, memos, applications, or resumes. Sessions begin with a little conversation about the assignment. Together, we can look over the description of the assignment and you can help us by letting us know a little about the class.
We can help you develop a draft, but very often people come with no writing and like to talk to a tutor about taking first steps. Come with nothing and leave with a plan!
Whether you are confident about an assignment or have questions or concerns, talking to a peer tutor is a wonderful way to move forward. Writing takes time and we can't do everything in a 50-minute session, but you can expect to leave with a good sense of how to continue working on your writing.
In the most productive sessions, both tutor and writer participate. We are happy to provide options, examples, and share what we've learned from our own writing experience, but, of course, final decisions about changes in the assignment remain with you, the author.
See our current hours here.
If you would like to talk to someone about making an appointment, during our open hours, you can call us at 312-413-2206.You can also get in touch with us via email: wconlinehelp@gmail.com.
Tutoring is free.
