See the KnowNo Movement in Action: Stopping Sexual Violence
Dear UIC Students (Faculty & Staff),
On Thursday, November 17, 2016, we hope to start a conversation about sexual consent. A conversation that raises awareness, challenges myths, and encourages us all to take positive actions. This conversation starts by bringing the "KnowNo" campaign to the University of Illinois at Chicago.
Since its launch, the movement has produced a video, filmed in downtown Chicago, that has received a million views. The "KnowNo" campaign challenges us to "Know" what "No" really means by using the power of performance art. In the words of the founders, "We set out to the streets to deliver our message in a way people couldn’t ignore, because in the light of day, there is no gray area."
Join us on the LC Quad on Thursday, November 17th, 11:00am - 1:00pm to witness the "KnowNo" campaign in action. Taking only a moment to view, the memory of this living portrait, could last a lifetime. Please be aware that this event will be filmed and viewers may be approached by film crews to record their response and reaction to the event. In case of inclement weather this event will take place in Student Center East.
This event is a great opportunity for classrooms, student organizations, and all members of our student body to see "KnowNo" and have a conversation. The following departments will host tables at this event to support viewers with information and referrals:
- Campus Advocacy Network
- Counseling Center
- Wellness Center
The University of Illinois at Chicago has a strong and enduring commitment to creating a culture where any and all aspects of sexual violence are not tolerated. This event is being offered as part of the "It’sOnUs" campaign to prevent sexual violence.
Sponsored by the Office of the Dean of Students, Campus Advocacy Network, Counseling Center, and Wellness Center.
