The UIC Study Abroad Office is pleased to highlight a new faculty-directed program that is now accepting applications for Summer 2024. The Taste of Fulbright: Global Leadership and Intercultural Development in Taiwan program is designed to provide students with a study abroad experience in Taiwan and focuses on concepts of global leadership, intercultural competence development, and career readiness, using Taiwan as a case study. Given its geographic location, a burgeoning semi-conductor industry, and an ambitious "Bilingual by 2030" national initiative to build capacity for Mandarin/English bilingualism, Taiwan offers a unique positionality for understanding the current geopolitical environment.
The course leverages partnerships with the Fulbright Taiwan Foundation for Scholarly Exchange's Consortium for Study Abroad in Taiwan to provide students with a rich intercultural experience while participating in activities that expose them to the range of international scholar activities that exist, including teaching English, pursuing graduate school abroad, conducting international research, and launching international careers. Daily introductory Mandarin lessons will be provided by local university instructors.
The program fee is $2,755 and includes 3 credits (LAS 299). Full details, including funding resources, are available on the program webpage.
