Border-Crossing Scholarship
The Social Justice Initiative at the University of Illinois at Chicago is accepting nominations/applications for our “border-crossing” scholarship. A $1,000 scholarship for the next two years will be awarded to a UIC undergraduate student working to transcend borders and diminish the boundaries of identity and geography. Inspired by three Chicago mentors for young activists, the Nesbitt, Carrasco, Unzueta scholarship is an effort to support youth engagement in international reform, international movement-building, and/or transnational solidarity efforts.
The deadline for nominations is February 15, 2016. All UIC undergraduate students in good academic standing are eligible.
Application/Nomination:
Nomination letter (2-3 pages) from a UIC faculty or staff member
Student personal statement (1page)
A copy of student transcripts
Students may self-nominate, but must submit contact information for 2 references and write a 2-3 page personal statement. Please submit all application materials to Emily Williams at emilywil@uic.edu using the subject line: "NCU BC Scholarship".
