Are you interested in studying abroad or adding to or improving on the languages you know? If so, please consider the awards listed below offered through the Boren Awards. These special opportunities include a total of 4 special initiatives with the addition of the South Asian Flagship Languages Initiative (SAFLI). Students interested in applying should review the application and reach out to ssp@uic.edu if they would like help with the application.
· The African Flagship Languages Initiative (AFLI) offers Boren Scholarship and Boren Fellowship applicants the opportunity to study African languages and cultures by participating in domestic and overseas language programs in Akan/Twi, French, Portuguese, Swahili, Wolof, or Zulu. · The Summer STEM Initiative provides funding for summer study abroad to undergraduate students in the Science, Technology, Engineering and Math fields (STEM).
· The Boren-ROTC Initiative offer a special initiative for undergraduate ROTC cadets and midshipmen. ROTC participants are strong candidates for the Boren Scholarship, due to their commitment to national security and government service.
· The South Asian Flagship Languages Initiative (SAFLI) offers Boren Scholarship applicants the opportunity for intensive language study of Hindi and Urdu and cultural immersion by participating in domestic and overseas language programs.
