Join us as a panel of UIC undergraduate alumni/new attorneys share their experiences ranging from preparing for and applying to law school, to what it was like to be a law student, to life as an attorney new to the profession.
The new attorneys visiting with UIC pre-law students are:
Cony Rosas (UIC Class of 2019) DePaul University College of Law, J.D., 2022; University of Illinois at Chicago, B.A., magna cum laude, 2019
A former paralegal, Cony is a passionate advocate for her clients. Her experience includes helping draft Uniform Domain-Name Dispute-Resolution Policy (UDRP) decisions and responses, and to conduct research on trademark, patent, copyright, and trade dress. Prior to joining Barnes & Thornburg full-time, she was a summer associate and a law clerk for the firm and drafted responses to U.S. Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) office actions, conducted research, and drafted memoranda related to IP and litigation matters. Cony was a criminal defense, family law, and personal injury paralegal for firms in Chicago and Salt Lake City and, as a native of Mexico who is fluent in Spanish, was a volunteer intern for Latinos Progresando in Chicago.
Syed Madani (UIC Class of 2014) University of Wisconsin Law School, J.D., 2018 Dean's Academic Achievement Award; University of Illinois at Chicago, B.A., 2014
Syed is a corporate associate in the Chicago office of Latham & Watkins. Syed’s practice focuses on the formation, structuring and operation of private equity funds and their management companies. Prior to joining Latham, Syed was a corporate associate at Kirkland & Ellis.

In her multiple capacities, Genesis has gained considerable knowledge of the firm’s clients and the inner workings of the family law field. With experience in Guardian ad Litem and adoption cases, Orders of Protection and many aspects of family law, Genesis is readily equipped to provide solutions to complex and sensitive family law matters. As a fluent Spanish speaker, she guides Spanish-speaking clients through their pressing issues.
