We welcome all students to join us on April 19th from 8:00 - 9:00 pm to learn about the large health disparities in Chicago due to the large presence of medically underserved areas and medical deserts. Furthermore, zip codes can determine life expectancy with some areas differing by decades and these areas often have a higher concentration of certain racial and ethnic minorities.
As the U.S. healthcare system evolves, one potential method for increasing access to health services in medical deserts is the use of mobile healthcare delivery models. These models can be implemented through mobile health clinics, which are vehicles that travel to communities to provide healthcare services, overcoming barriers such as geography, trust, money, and time. In the rapidly changing environment of healthcare access in Chicago, mobile health clinics can address the primary care needs of patients and reach underserved areas.
