We are offering two courses in Spring 2022 that may be of interest to pre-med students in the Honors College:
RELS 255 - Religious Diversity in the Healthcare Field
If you choose to enter the healthcare field, the majority of your patients will identify as religious: more than 75% of adults in the United States claim that religion is very or somewhat important to them. Moreover, these patients will have diverse religious identifications and affiliations that will condition their perspectives on their bodily and mental health. This course seeks to prepare you for engaging with a diversity of religious perspectives and behaviors in healthcare settings. We will explore how patients' religious perspectives impact their decision-making about their health, as well as the ways in which religious practices affect patient outcomes in healthcare settings. In each of our weekly meetings, your learning will be promoted through short lectures, guest speakers, discussions, and case studies.
