National Alzheimer's Buddies at UIC is looking forward to hosting Dr. Van Heumen and Dr. Yoshizaki-Gibbons for our Disability and Aging with Dementia and Alzheimer’s Speaker Panel on Thursday, February 25th from 6:00pm-7:00pm.
Dr. Lieke van Heumen is a Clinical Assistant Professor in the Department of Disability and Human Development. Dr. van Heumen regularly provides training for community agencies on aging with intellectual and developmental disabilities and supports for those living with dementia.
Dr.Yoshizaki-Gibbons is a UIC PhD graduate from the Disability and Human Development program with a concentration in Gender and Women's Studies. She is currently working on a project entitled "'In the Time of Dementia': Temporality, Care, and Confinement in Dementia Units of American Nursing Homes." This ethnographic project will focus on older women with dementia who had been institutionalized and the immigrant women of color who are their caretakers.
