Hello, my name is Dr. Justin Salehi, a pediatrician at UIC, and I am reaching out with an opportunity to participate in a medical education research project. The project is a prospective evaluation of pediatric residents, examining their ability to identify and consider any life challenges their patients’ families are facing (call “contextual factors”) that may be relevant to planning their care.
Your role would consist primarily of assisting with enrolling patients in clinic and subsequently collecting/cataloguing audio recordings of clinical encounters. This is expected to continue through the end of the 2023-2024 academic year. There is also the possibility of helping to analyze already recorded encounters (using the “4C Coding” method, which we can train you to do).
No prior research experience is necessary although you will be required to complete several online modules that train and certify you to do research at UIC. While I am not able to compensate you for your time, you would be eligible for a share in authorship of any resulting publications proportional to your contributions.
An ideal candidate would be a motivated student who can work independently and be present for at least one half-day of the allotted data collection times weekly (approximately 5 hours; currently Wednesday afternoon 12:45 PM to about 6 PM, Friday 8:45 AM to about 1 PM, or Friday 12:45 PM to about 6 PM).
