The Food Recovery Network at UIC works to end food waste and fight food insecurity by donating food that would otherwise go to waste. We are looking for UIC students (undergraduate and graduate), staff, and faculty with a valid US driver's license interested in helping the environment, accumulating service hours, and/or driving an electric vehicle!
Recovery drivers will use the electric vehicle, GEMA, shown in the image or a personal vehicle to transport leftover food from UI Health Hospital, Rush University, and Student Center East cafeterias to the Franciscan Outreach Homeless Shelter on Harrison & California. The recovery process starts and ends at the Paulina Street Building on the corner of Paulina & Roosevelt.
Recoveries happen every day on a weekly basis; to get an idea of your availability, please scan the QR code on the image and fill out the interest form. The interest form is also in the LinkTree which can be accessed in our Instagram bio.
