The UIC Wellness Center and the Undergraduate Student Government (USG), have launched a service called the Pop-Up Pantry which is a food pantry for registered UIC students. The Pop-Up Pantry offers canned goods and non-perishable food items. The resource is free for students, and intended to help homeless students, low-income students, and anyone who needs the service.
The Pantry is "popping up" again on Wednesday September 28, 2016 from 10:00 AM to 2:00 PM in Student Center East Tower room 613. Open to all registered UIC Students with an I-card.
Since our first Pop-Up Pantry in November 2014, we have been observing student's needs in order to enhance our services. We have learned that some students face the challenge of not knowing how to cook a simple meal or how to shop for groceries. To serve and support UIC students we have added the following educational components to Wellness Center services:
- Grocery store tour
- Fast food smart choices tour
- Food preparation demo during the pantry and as workshops and
- Nutritional workshop: "Making Food Work for You."
