Fall 2021
Take this specific section of Hon 200: What’s in a Name? Exploring Chicago through an Experiential Collaboration with Roosevelt University
Instructors: Lauren DeJulio Bell & Michele McCrillis
Course Description:
In this course, we will begin our year-long Honors partnership with Roosevelt University’s Honors Program, centering on a collaborative partnership that includes intellectual, experiential, social, and local engagement. We will focus on texts that honor people named Jane who have had an influential impact in the city of Chicago. The course will include readings, dialogue, and urban exploration related to women who shaped Chicago and our community, including Jane Addams, former Mayor Jane Byrne, and those involved with the Jane Collective. This class will meet the 2nd Friday of each month from 12-2 pm for discussion, guest speakers, and field trips. We’re excited to work with you!
Please note: this Honors collaboration is a year-long experience. Therefore, you will take Hon 200 in Fall 2021 and the related section of Hon 201 in Spring 2022. In registering for this course, you are implicitly agreeing to take Hon 201 in Spring 2022 as well, and to remain in this program for the entire academic year. (The class will continue to meet on Friday afternoons in the Spring). You will also earn another Honors Unit for outside experiential fieldwork throughout the year. This work will culminate in an end-of-year symposium with Roosevelt University, to take place in the spring. By the end of the academic year, you will earn a total of 3 Honors Units.
Spring 2021
