The Honors College would like to help all students on campus prepare for the Student Research Forum (SRF), which will be held on April 2, 2015. We are offering a series of workshops on abstract writing, poster design and preparation, and presentation strategies. These are OPEN TO ALL UIC STUDENTS—graduate and undergraduate. Students are also welcome to join us to prepare for any other research symposia or conferences happening on or off-campus this spring.
Come to one, two, or all of the events. Questions and requests for accommodations can be sent to hcollege@uic.edu. No RSVP is necessary.

Bring: Your poster (or a mock-up) and your index cards and your ideas. We will run a mock research forum, serve as mock judges for each other’s presentations, and give one another feedback. Experienced faculty and advisers will be present to provide input.

The deadline for abstracts is Monday March 16th at 9 am. The Student Research Forum is sponsored by the Office of the Vice Chancellor for Research, the Vice Provost for Undergraduate Affairs, The Provost/VCAA, the Alumni Association, the Honors College, the Student Activities Funding Association, the Graduate College, and the Office of Sustainability.

A range of experts in diverse fields discuss what constitutes an effective abstract in their disciplines. Poster Preparation Workshop

We will talk about:
- different ways of doing scholarly presentations and the poster format featured in the UIC Student Research Forum
- how to best design your poster
- how to talk to your audience, share your findings, and engage with others succinctly and in a scholarly fashion
Prepare by:
- thinking about what information should be included and how it should be displayed visually to help you explain your research
- practicing on your own how to summarize your research in approximately 7 minutes
