An opportunity to conduct research is available in the group of Prof. Jordi Cabana, in the Department of Chemistry. This research project is in the area of Data Science for Chemistry. It can be conducted remotely if current COVID-19 restrictions continue.
You will further the field of Li-ion battery science through simulations of materials spectroscopy and identification of chemical signatures via machine learning. Due to vast amounts of data generated today, it is becoming difficult to individually identify spectral features by hand. Therefore, a program is needed to systematically relate spectra to chemistry in complex samples, through a computer program.
The intended target is a junior or senior undergraduate looking for a Capstone project. The student major should be in a related field of Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, or Physics. The research can start right away, or with the Fall semester and would be best conducted over a complete academic year, as expected in a Capstone.
