Are all public spaces inclusive—that is, are they equally accessible to people of different race, class, gender, sexuality, religion, and ability? This course challenges students’ understanding of their environment by using the UIC Library as a site of analysis. This course will run in tandem with a course at Northwestern University as part of the new Chicago Local Online Collaborative Course project, an iteration of a Distributed Online Collaborative Course (DOCC) which is a feminist response to the Massive Open Online Course (MOOC) model. In addition to communicating via online methods, students from both universities will come together at UIC at the end of the term to discuss their findings at each institution’s library.
