September Sustainability Days (http://go.uic.edu/SustainabilityDays) is a month-long celebration of sustainable living. The Office of Sustainability hosts events throughout the month, as well as partner and promote other's sustainability-related events. This year, we are featuring our Sustainability Scavenger Hunt! So, stop by our events and pick up your passport. Campus Electronic Recycling Collection
September 11- 10:00am-2:00pm, Student Center East/ Hull House Lawn and September 18- 10:00am-2:00pm, Student Center West Lawn: Come drop off your UIC office electronics to be recycled correctly. We will also be accepting your personal electronics, by partnering with VetTech.
Open House and Green Campus Tours
Meet the Office of Sustainability in the Lecture Center Plaza (The Quad) and we will walk around the east side of campus discussing sustainable features including LEED buildings. 30 minute tours begin at 9am, 10am, 11am, and noon. Register at http://go.uic.edu/openhouse
Transportation Fair & Cycling Extravaganza!
September 15- 10:00am-2:00pm, Lecture Center Plaza (The Quad): This fun festival will showcase alternate modes of transportation and help you navigate to, from, and around UIC complete with bike workshops and a chance to test drive Nissan's electric vehicle, the Leaf! Drop off your passport here to redeem prizes!

The Power of Residential Energy Choices September 16- 12:00 pm, Great Cities Institute, CUPPA Hall, Suite 400: Learn how Chicagoland residents have the power to help eliminate their dependence on fossil fuels and protect their environment, all the while reducing their energy costs! Industry experts will talk about their current initiatives, but will also open the floor for some interactive Q&A
Don't Even Think About It: Why Our Brains Are Wired to Ignore Climate Change: A Discussion with George Marshall September 17- 1:00pm, Student Center East (SCE) Room 605: Join George Marshall for an interactive discussion on Climate Change. Memorial Grove Re-dedication Ceremony
September 17- 3:00pm, Chicago Circle Memorial Grove: See how UIC transformed the Memorial Grove into an interactive green space with remarks by Chancellor Paula Allen-Meares, Student Trustee Danielle Leibowitz, Vice Chancellor for Administrative Services Mark Donovan & Vice Chancellor for Student Affairs Barbara Henley. Weigh Your Waste
September 23- 25 - 11:00 am - 1:30 pm: Have you ever visualized what all of your uneaten food looks like in the landfill? UIC Dining Services will weigh all food scraps at the end of lunch to emphasize the amount of food wasted and to also show the importance of reserve resources by only taking what you eat. Plastic Paradise: The Great Pacific Garbage Patch Film Screening September 23- 3:00 pm, Latino Cultural Center: Presented by the Office of Sustainability, SURF and part of the Latino Cultural Center's Civic Cinema series. Stay after the film for a discussion of how plastics are affecting society and the environment. Bonus viewing September 29 at 3:30pm in the School of Public Health Auditorium.
