The Office of Special Scholarship Programs is seeking applicants for a summer student worker vacancy. The UNDERGRADUATE student worker will provide 10-15 hours per week of basic office support in our 2506 UH office from May through August. Exact start and end dates can be negotiated, the position pays $10/hour. Prior office experience and a willingness to extend employment period through Fall 2014 and Spring 2015 are preferred, but all applications from undergraduates will be considered.
Responsibilities:
A. Provide current UIC undergraduates and professional school students with basic scholarship information
B. Staff tables at information fairs
C. Check the mail twice a day
D. Make copies as needed
E. Distribute flyers around campus
F. Handle phone calls (schedule student appointments for staff members, take messages, check voice mail, answer inquiries from current and prospective UIC students and parents)
G. Maintain the OSSP main space, empty garbage, vacuum, dust, file and clean as needed.
H. Make sure to keep ample supply of all handouts provided in main office at all times.
I. Keep track of supplies and inform office manager when supplies are running low.
J. Maintain OSSP database.
K. Carry out small projects as needed.
Qualifications: Previous office support and/or customer service experience on or off-campus is strongly preferred. Candidates must have basic computer skills and the ability to communicate clearly.
Eligiblity: Due to the federal funding restrictions for the UIC AANAPISI Initiative, student employees must be non-international, undergraduate UIC students who are enrolled (part-time or full-time) during the academic year. In the summer, students do not have to be enrolled as long as they were enrolled in spring and will be enrolled in the fall. While students who have Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) (http://www.uic.edu/depts/oaa/diversity/sdsb.html) are eligible for student employment at UIC, we regret that DACA students are not eligible for employment in this program.
About this position: This position is part of the AANAPISI Educational Employment Grant program offered by the UIC AANAPISI Initiative, Student Employment, and the Career Services Office. Concurrent to their employment, student employees, along with their supervisors, will engage in a guided career development framework aimed at building lifelong career skills to support lifelong professional success. The UIC AANAPISI Initiative is fully funded by the U.S. Department of Education¹s Asian American and Native American Pacific Islander-Serving Institutions (AANAPISI) Program.
