Advocates for Human Potential, Inc. (AHP), www.ahpnet.com, is seeking a Research Assistant in the newly-opened Chicago office to assist the research team in the collection and management of data on multiple research projects related to integrated health care, homelessness, mental health and substance abuse disorders, and criminal justice populations. The main responsibilities of the position include: participating in data collection activities, including conducting stakeholder interviews and focus groups; basic data analyses; conducting research literature reviews; assisting with development and dissemination of products and trainings based on research results; coordinating project activities, as well as general administrative support. Requirements for the position include: some prior research experience/ knowledge; the ability to work independently; experience balancing multiple tasks; strong organizational and writing skills; attention to detail; some schedule flexibility; and the ability to establish rapport with a variety of individuals, including vulnerable populations and other key stakeholder groups (e.g., program administrators and service providers).

Primary Responsibilities
- Conduct interviews and focus groups with key stakeholders on implementation of Together4Health (T4H), a coordinated care entity funded by the state of Illinois, and other healthcare reform initiatives
- Conduct literature reviews and on-line document searches in specific topic areas
- Conduct data entry and data quality review
- Run basic reports on data and assist with data analysis
- Assist in report writing, evaluation, updates and findings
- Assist with development and dissemination of resource materials, trainings, and other products based on project results
- File, copy and mail reports, proposals and studies as required
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Writes clearly, ability to synthesize literature for internal review, modify project descriptions, create professional and concise memos and assist with copy editing
- Develops creative approaches to engaging stakeholders in research endeavors
- Knows how to identify current research and conduct research reviews using the internet and published sources
- Feels comfortable with study participants; study participants find the person easy to talk to, is able to put participants at ease; is able to build rapport and listens, and demonstrates empathy to the plight of others who are less fortunate
- Able to process, code, and double check data completely and accurately; proofread tables and charts and text to insure that they are error free
- Learn and apply new software for data collection and analysis
- Spends time on what is important for the client; quickly zeros in on the critical tasks necessary to meet client timelines
- Able to anticipate requests, ask for clarification as appropriate and work with moderate direction and support
Qualifications
- Previous experience/knowledge around program evaluation/research
- BA or BS in behavioral or social science or a mental health related field
- 2+ years experience in a research environment
- Working knowledge of Internet, SPSS/STATA, Excel, Outlook, Word, and MS Access
