Are your classes cancelled Wednesday at 1pm? Then don’t miss this unique opportunity for a special interactive session with Dr. Jose Oberholzer, where you will have the opportunity to brainstorm cross-disciplinary solutions to address the diabetes epidemic in our country with one of the leading researchers on this topic! Food will be provided.
Diabetes is a public health epidemic that involves everyone and takes leadership from all sectors to solve. In this interactive session, you will work in groups to develop plans to address the diabetes epidemic in our country. Dr. Oberholzer will provide you with some foundational information about diabetes, and then in groups you will choose one angle to address the issue from. For two hours, you will take on the role of someone like the Surgeon General, the CEO of a Pharmaceutical Company, the CEO of Chicago Public Schools, head of the military, a local non-profit agency, or the head of CMS or NIH. Together, you will come up with your plans and engage in lively discussion and dialogue about how to address this important issue! This special seminar is open to students of all majors and academic interests.
Dr. Oberholzer is one of the premier researchers in the area of diabetes and head of the Chicago Diabetes Project, the first-ever international collaboration of scientists working toward a cure for the disease. Learn more about his work here: https://www.uiaa.org/uic/news/uicalumni/1012b.html
