The University of Chicago’s Becker Friedman Institute for Economics will host a paid, three-week Expanding Diversity in Economics Summer Institute, targeting undergraduate students from traditionally under-represented backgrounds. The goal is to reach early undergraduate students (freshmen and sophomores) with quantitative skills and expose them to the study of economics – in the hopes that they may choose this as an area of study.
This year’s program will be a hybrid – a one-week virtual skills boot camp followed by two weeks of in-person programming. For selected students, BFI pay the costs of travel, housing, meals and social events, and each student receives a stipend of $1,200 for completing the program (Pell Grant recipients receive an expanded stipend of $2,400). It’s a great opportunity if you have students who you think would be a good fit.
